Monet was a wonderful painter who could make scenes such as this come to life on canvas. I knew of a wonderful singer who could do the same with song. Her name was Joy Prince Thomson. Her voice was beautiful and her accomplishments were many. I first met her as a very little boy when her family moved across the street from me. She was a very talented person; a KIND person but most of all, a wonderful mother.
Here are her children:
"In honor of our mother, Joy Prince Thomson
Our childhood friend, Al, invited us to share our memories of our mom here on his site, and we are deeply honored to do so. Our mom’s name was Joy, and she truly brought joy to those she worked with and for. She also loved Al and loved to hear him play the piano and sing. She was passionate and intense, with one of those personalities that could be called a “mover and shaker.” If you weren’t inclined to work alongside her, it was probably best to move out of her way because once she set her sights on something it was going to be accomplished, with or without your assistance. However, while she was barreling through she would be making you laugh at her humorous insights or silly quotes, and, if you were really fortunate and she was feeling especially energetic, she would show you her teenage jitterbug moves.
Our mom touched countless lives during her teaching career. She was instrumental in starting several small Christian schools, taught kindergarten for many years, and then served as a school administrator for many more years. She was born to teach and loved sharing her knowledge and experience with others. We couldn’t walk through our local grocery store without running into someone who had either been in or who had children in one or more of her classes. They would always express their delight at the difference she had made in their lives.
Mom loved to sing. She had a beautiful soprano voice and it usually soared above everyone else’s during congregational singing. She also sang solos and duets with our dad throughout their marriage and they were fairly well known in our community. We still receive compliments from those who had the privilege of hearing her sing while she was alive. October of 2005 brought about the end of a beautiful and vibrant life. She bravely fought cancer for years, and even after she’d been unconscious for several days awoke and after asking why we were all gathered at home, stated she “hadn’t wanted to give up.” We assured her that no one thought she was giving up, but that her body simply couldn’t fight any longer.
We would be remiss in honoring our mom if we didn’t include the huge love and devotion she had for Jesus. Her illness only increased her passion to know Him more, and we know she is with him now and can’t wait to see her again. Thank you Al, for allowing us to honor our mom, Joy." At Mrs Thomson's funeral, at her request, her 9 year old granddaughter, Mickey sang a very beautiful song: "My lips will praise you". Mickey went on to have a beautiful singing voice just like her grandmother.
While NO one loved and knew Mrs Thomson like her children did, many many others loved and respected her.
